Foundation construction across six remote sites, each consisting of 137 cubic metres of concrete and a further 90 cubic metres of concrete for stage two. Each site required a clearing of 650 square metres of bush with one site, in particular, requiring 450 cubic metres of excavated material at places down to a six-metre depth.
Connell Contractors is proud to be part of New Zealand’s largest windfarm development. Turitea Wind Farm is set to be home to 27 consented turbines, to create a 222MW, producing 840GWh. This full-scale development was developed to introduce new sustainable, low emissions future by making more renewable energy sources available to meet the demand projections and synergies.
Mobilisation of all plant and equipment had to be helicoptered onto the site locations and the remote locations required a 50-minute walk through dense bush every morning and evening. More than 15 tonnes of reinforced steel was flown in and the Connell team excavated more than 900 cubic metres of soil and rock using only 1.7 tonne excavators.
